To achieve the signature high-gloss patent finish on full-grain leather, we incorporate an additional, meticulous process known as “finishing.” This involves coating the surface of the leather with a thin layer of polyurethane or acrylic to enhance its shine and durability. The leather is passed through a flow coater—where it moves under a continuous waterfall of the finishing liquid—and then sealed in a drying tunnel using ultraviolet or infrared light. To ensure that deep, vibrant color and the signature mirror-like finish, the leather undergoes this process three to four times. The final layer is a crystal-clear topcoat that provides the iconic glossy sheen that makes patent leather so striking and sophisticated.
